CGC REEF SHARK (WPB 87371)

“Praesidium Insula Virgo”

The CGC REEF SHARK is an 87-foot long Marine Protector Class vessel, comprising a class of coastal patrol boats of the United States Coast Guard. She is homeported in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  The Marine Protector Class is based on the Stan 2600 design by Damen Group, and was built by Bollinger Shipyards of Lockport, Louisiana.

Each boat is named after a marine predator; there are currently 73 in service for the United States Coast Guard.  Missions include search and rescue support, combating drug smuggling and illegal immigration, marine fisheries enforcement and recreational boater safety.

CGC REEF SHARK is the only Marine Protector Class Vessel homeported outside of the continental United States. As such, she is one of few of its kind to conduct missions involving the interdiction of narcotics and the repatriation of illegal migrants in the Eastern Caribbean.
