Master Chief Petty Officer Afip "Tito" Castillo

Command Master Chief, USCG Sector San Juan

Master Chief Castillo reported aboard Sector San Juan in June 2024, where he serves as the Silver Badge Command Master Chief, advising the Sector Commander regarding issues, policies, and initiatives pertaining to Coast Guard personnel and their families assigned to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In his previous assignment, since June 20, 2022, Master Chief Castillo served as the Machinery Technician Assignment Officer at Personnel Service Center, Coast Guard Headquarters Washington D.C. 

He enlisted in the Coast Guard on June 08, 2004, and advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer on July 1, 2021.  Through this timeframe, Master Chief Petty Castillo served as the RIC RO Philadelphia, Command Chief and Engineer Petty Officer at United States Coast Guard Cutter Winslow Griesser at San Juan, PR, and Cutter Maui in Patrol Forces Southwest Asia.  Other tours include, ATO Mayport, FL, USCGC Vigilant, Cape Canaveral, FL, USCG Base Honolulu, HI, and USCGC Dauntless, Galveston Island, TX. 

Master Chief Castillo has been recognized for his efforts receiving the Coast Guard Commendation Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Coast Guard Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal as well as several team and unit commendations. In addition to various other personal and unit level awards, he wears the Permanent Cutterman and Boat Forces (Advanced) Insignia. Master Chief was also nominated for the Master Chief Angela M. McShan Award in Inspirational Leadership.  

Master Chief Castillo is a graduate of Class 216 of the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Academy; Class 72 Coast Guard’s Senior Enlisted Leader Course, Class 237 Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, and the 8th Coast Guard graduate of the Joint Special Operations Forces Senior Enlisted Academy. Master Chief Castillo holds an AA, BA from Thomas Edison State University, and currently pursuing his M.ED from Liberty University. He also holds a Certificate of Apprenticeship as a Counselor from USMAP and is a licensed amateur boxing coach trough USA Boxing since 2018. 

Master Chief Castillo is married to his high school sweetheart, former Janise Rivera of Bayamon, Puerto Rico and they have three children.
