Summary:
The Response Department oversees three boat stations (including two PWCS Level 1 stations) and three 87-foot patrol boats, and a broad portfolio of mission areas. These missions include Search and Rescue, Maritime Law Enforcement, Ports Waterways and Coastal Security, Living Marine Resources Conservation and Enforcement, Recreational Boating Safety, Marine Environmental Response (including releases of oil and other hazardous substances into the maritime environment), counter drug operations, and coordination of operations to protect the marine transportation system and secure space operations of national importance emanating from the U.S. Eastern Range. Response Department professionals also work closely with other federal, state, county, and local partners in a collaborative approach to protect life, property, and the marine environment, and to respond to or counter threats to public safety and security.
