Location:
Sector Jacksonville is situated on six acres of land adjacent to Naval Station Mayport, along the St. Johns River in Mayport, FL.
Mission:
The mission of Sector Jacksonville is to provide unified command and control for accomplishing Coast Guard mission objectives.
Area of Responsibility (AOR):
The AOR encompasses 40,000 square miles of ocean and inland waterways. It spans 190 miles of coastline from King’s Bay, GA to Port Malabar, FL, including 10 inlets that provide safe passage to inland waterways. Inland waters within the AOR include 248 miles of the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW), 161 miles of the St. John’s River, and numerous rivers, creeks, and marshes.
Units and Installations:
- Multi-Mission Station Mayport, Station Ponce de Leon Inlet, and Station Port Canaveral, FL operate within the AOR.
- Sector Jacksonville is parent command to five cutters: MARIA BRAY, HAMMER, MORAY, HERON, and TARPON.
- Two Aids to Navigation teams are located at Ponce de Leon and Jacksonville Beach, along with MSD Canaveral.
- Within the AOR are five Department of Defense installations: U.S. Eastern Space and Missile Center, the Naval Ordnance Test Unit, and Kennedy Space Center.
Responsibilities:
Sector Jacksonville oversees all Coast Guard missions in the Jacksonville Captain of the Port (COTP) zone and AOR, including Search and Rescue, Ports Waterways and Coastal Security, Waterways Management, Maritime Homeland Security, Marine Science Activities, Aids to Navigation, and Command and Logistical Support.

- Sector Jacksonville serves as the world’s second busiest cruise ship port (as of 2023) and the world’s busiest Space Port.
- It is home to Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, USN Fourth Fleet, Naval Station Mayport, Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Navy Region Southeast, NASA Kennedy Space Center, Patrick Space Force Base, Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Space Launch Delta 45, and Naval Ordnance Testing Unit Port Canaveral.
- Additionally, it functions as a Commercial Strategic Seaport and registers over 215,000 state vessels
