Commanding Officer

Captain Thomas C. Rodzewicz reports to CGC JAMES after having departed Coast Guard Atlantic Area as the Chief of Cutter Forces where he was responsible for the direction and oversight of 26 Major Cutters and 2800 personnel. In addition to the Major Cutters, he also oversaw the employment of over 100 District and Sector assets.

He graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 2003 earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and later earned two Master’s Degrees, one in Mechanical Engineering and another in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2010.

Prior to reporting to LANT Area CAPT Rodzewicz was the SFLC Medium Endurance Product Line Manager. While attached to the MEC Product Line, he independently orchestrated all supply, support, and repair functions required to operationally maintain 27 Medium Endurance Cutters and CGC EAGLE. He was directly responsible to the Area Commanders for the overall readiness and maintenance of the surface fleet and contingency response operations.  

During his most recent afloat tour, as the Commanding Officer of CGC SPENCER (WMEC 905), Captain Rodzewicz led his crew through two Eastern Pacific Joint Interagency Task Force South counter-narcotics patrols, a District One fisheries enforcement and Search and Rescue patrol, and two District Seven Migrant Interdiction Operations and counter-narcotics patrols.

CAPT Rodzewicz previously served as the Executive Officer of CGC DAUNTLESS (WMEC 624), as an Instructor at the United States Coast Guard Academy, and Engineering Training Officer of CGC EAGLE (WIX 327) where he was responsible for the education and training of the service’s future officers.

Additionally, CAPT Rodzewicz served as the Engineer Officer onboard CGC DILIGENCE (WMEC 616), as a Port Engineer for the 9th Coast Guard District and was a qualified Deck Watch Officer onboard CGC THETIS (WMEC 910) while serving as the Damage Control assistant and later relieving as the Engineer Officer.

Captain Rodzewicz’s awards include four Meritorious Service Medals, three Coast Guard Commendation Medals, Coast Guard Achievement Medal, and several other personal and unit awards. He resides in VA. with his wife Stephanie, and three children.

Command Chief

OSCS Cody A. Rochus ​

Senior Chief Cody Rochus reported aboard USCGC James (WMSL 754) in April 2022 and assumed the duties as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader in December 2023. 

Sea duty assignments including USCGC Rush (WHEC 723) in Honolulu, Hawaii; USCGC Hamilton (WMSL 753) in Charleston, South Carolina; and USCGC Mellon (WHEC 717) in Seattle, Washington accumulating over ten years of sea time.

Senior Chief Rochus’ assignments ashore include Sector Ohio Valley Command Center in Louisville, Kentucky, and Sector Northern New England Command Center in South Portland, Maine. 

His personal awards include four Coast Guard Achievement Medals with the operational distinguishing device, four Coast Guard Commandant Letter of Commendation Ribbons with the operational distinguishing device, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and various other personal and unit awards. Additionally, he is authorized to wear the Cutterman Insignia, and Response Operations Ashore Insignia.   

Originally, from Oak Hill, Ohio, Senior Chief Rochus enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in February 2007. He has been married to his wife Ashley since September of 2008 and they are the proud owners of two Yellow Labs named Roxie and Remi.
