SlocumCommander Slocum reports to Coast Guard Communications Command after serving as the Coast Guard Cyber Field Maintenance Branch Chief where he oversaw all Coast Guard Base Command, Control Computer, Cyber, and Intelligence (C5I) departments that included 88 Electronic Support Detachments (ESDs) providing electronic and computer maintenance and upgrades for all shore and small boat units. In addition, provided computer and electronic support for contingency operations South West Border, Operation Allies Welcome, Red Hill contamination and all hurricane disaster recovery efforts from 2017-2022.

Prior to CG Cyber, he served as the Operations Officer of Communications Area Master Station Atlantic (CAMSLANT) where he helped orchestrate the largest reorganization and remoting of the CG communication system in history and stood up COMMCOM. Once COMMCOM stood up, Commander Slocum assumed the Executive Officer (XO) position.

With a highly technical career spanning more than 34 years which began in Cape May, NJ in January 1988 Commander Slocum served aboard the CGC Mackinaw. Following Electronics’ Technician “A” school in Governor’s Island, NY he transferred to the CGC Vigorous then onto Group Grand Haven, LORAN Station Baudette, CGC Sweetbrier, ESD FT Macon, Maintenance Logistics Command, C2CEN/C3CEN, CAMSLANT/COMMCOM, C5I Service Center and CG Cyber.

Commander Slocum has held 13 separate ranks including E1 thru E-7, Chief Warrant Officer, Lieutenant, Lieutenant Commander and Commander. He has also earned numerous personal awards that include two Meritorious Service Medals, Three Commendations Medals, two Achievement Medals, two Commandant’s Letters of Commendation and the Copernicus Award for significant contributions to the C5I community. He holds a Master’s Degree in System’s engineering from Old Dominion University. Also a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Webster University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Systems Technical Management from Southern Illinois University. Commander Slocum is also a graduate of the Coast Guard Chief’s Academy and the Chief Warrant Officer Academy.

Commander Slocum is a native of Cadillac Michigan and is married to his wife Mary from Grand Haven Michigan. They have two children Jonathon and Mercedes and two grandsons Lion and Dakota.
