Please review the information on this page and submit the questionnaire at the bottom.

Procedures for reporting aboard:

Stay in contact with your sponsor and keep him/her informed of your travel plans. Your sponsor will plan on meeting you at the airport if you’re flying in or when you arrive at the ship if you’re driving.

Plan on reporting aboard in Newport, RI at Pier 2, Naval Station Newport if we are in homeport. If we are away from homeport, anticipate reporting to Base Boston (call (617) 223-3456 for details). Report during work hours and coordinate your reporting time with your sponsor.

Upon reporting, you will receive a check-in sheet and a Damage Control Personnel Qualification Standards (DC PQS) handbook. If you do not receive these when you arrive, ask your sponsor for them.

After you arrive, your sponsor will escort you through the cutter and complete your initial check-in procedures. Speak to the Command Chief to schedule a meeting with Commanding Officer within three days of reporting on board. You will have ten working days for to complete your check-in packet prior to meeting with the Executive Officer.

YN1 will help you complete your administrative check-in and travel claim. Bring your receipts to facilitate completing the claim; all PCS travel claims must be submitted to E2Solutions within 72 hours of reporting.

Local Airports:

Logan International Airport (Boston, MA) is 1 hour and 30 minutes away from Newport. Visit www.massport.com/logan-airport/ or call 1-800-23-Logan for more information.

Housing:

Newport is a very popular tourist destination with large seasonal swings in housing availability.  While living on the economy is an option for most members, there may not be affordable housing available.

To assist in this, Naval Station Newport has Government Housing for Coast Guard members. It is mandatory that unmarried E-3 and below be assigned to barracks rooms on base, and government leased housing is available to all other crewmembers.

To start the process for getting into Government Housing, bring a copy of your orders to the front desk of the Newport Navy Lodge on base. They can be reached at (401) 849-4500.

If you plan on living on the economy check the BAH rates for your pay grade and zip code 02841. There are several good realtors in the local area.  For a BAH calculator, visit http://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/site/bahCalc.cfm.
