Commander Nolan V. Cain
CDR Nolan Cain is a native of Port Huron, Michigan. He attended Coast Guard Basic Training in 2005 as part of the College Student Pre-commissioning Initiative. He earned a B.A. in History from Winston Salem State University in 2006 and received his commission from Officer Candidate School in 2007.
CDR Cain reported as Commanding Officer of CGC DILIGENCE (WMEC 616) in June of 2023. His prior afloat assignments were aboard CGC RUSH (WHEC 723) as the Auxiliary Division Officer and assistant Engineer Officer, CGC MUNRO (WHEC 724) as the Weapons Officer and Operations Department Head, as Commanding Officer of CGC MONOMOY (WPB 1326) and CGC FARALLON (WPB 1301), and as the Executive Officer aboard CGC TAHOMA (WMEC 908). While at sea, CDR Cain patrolled throughout the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, the Bering and Caribbean Seas, and the Arabian Gulf, conducting a range of law enforcement, defense, and search and rescue operations.
Ashore, he served as the aide-de-camp to the Pacific Area Commander and attended the U.S Army Command and General Staff College where he earned a Master’s in Military Art and Science. CDR Cain most recently served as the Interdiction Division Chief in the Office of Law Enforcement Policy, at U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters.
CDR Cain’s brother, Dominic, also serves in the Coast Guard as a Chief Electronics Technician at Electronics Support Detachment Detroit. CDR Cain is engaged to Ms. Theresa Schumer of Necedah, Wisconsin.
