Air Station Borinquen Housing Office - (787) 890-8470
Coast Guard Sector San Juan HHG Coordinator - (787) 729-2316
Overview: Base housing is located less than a mile from the Air Station. Housing Units are comprised of 2, 3, and 4 bedroom family quarters. Quarters are governed by family size as outlined in COMDTINST M11101, and Air Station Borinquen Housing Manual.
Assignment to Housing: All Coast Guard active duty personnel, accompanied and unaccompanied, are expected to live in Coast Guard owned housing upon acceptance of orders to Air Station Borinquen. Exceptions may be approved on a case-by-case basis. Historically, approval to live off-base and receive OHA has been granted to single members, with no dependants, E-6 and above. Current Inter-Service Support Agreements provide housing to Army and Air Force personnel/families.
Renovation Project: Air Station Borinquen Housing is currently undergoing a multi-phase renovation project. The Housing Office makes every effort to assign inbound members to renovated homes. In the event that a house is not yet ready for occupancy, members may be assigned to MWR Guest Housing with Temporary Lodging Allowance (TLA).
Express Shipments (unaccompanied baggage): This shipment can be delivered while receiving TLA awaiting assignment to housing. Household Goods (HHG) cannot be delivered until housing assignment has been made. In extreme cases, members have been on TLA, without HHG, for several months. Speak to your servicing SPO about unaccompanied baggage entitlements and utilize to the maximum extent.
Garages: For units that do not have garages, one may be assigned from the available garage complexes in the housing area. Normal issue is one garage per family or one garage shared by 2 UPH members.
Pets, UPH: In accordance with Coast Guard Housing Manual, COMDTINST M11101, pets are not authorized in unaccompanied housing (UPH). Inbound UPH members are not authorized to bring pets into UPH housing.
Pitbull Terriers: Puerto Rico House Bill (H.B.) 595, No. 158, prohibits the introduction, import, possession, acquisition, breeding, purchase, sale and transfer in any form of Pitbull Terriers or any cross-breed thereof.
HOUSING APPLICATION PROCESS
*Process is the same whether requesting “assignment to” or “release from” housing

3. Copy of your completed Orders.
Housing Fax: (787) 890-8463. Main Housing line (for email address): (787) 890-8470.
Your sponsor is also a valuable asset for general inquiries and concerns regarding Borinquen housing.
FAMILY HOUSING
Appliances: Family housing units are equipped with air conditioners, electric stoves, and refrigerators; however, you may ship your own refrigerator. Accompanied personnel must provide their own washer/dryer.
Furniture: While almost any type of furniture is acceptable, keep in mind that Puerto Rico is in the tropics; termites and corrosion are a threat. Storage space is limited in family units, consider leaving a portion of your household goods (HHG’s) in government non-temporary storage INCONUS. Personnel should check with housing and/or sponsors before shipment of HHG's.
UNACCOMPANIED PERSONNEL
HHGs: For members E-5 and below assigned to UPH, there is an administrative weight limitation of 2500 lbs., per the Joint Federal Travel Regulation. Members E-7 and above assigned to UPH have the option of shipping HHG’s up to the prescribed weight allowance, but should consider the size of their UPH housing and the option to place HHG’s in non-temporary storage prior to departing their previous unit.
